Engineering Director

Pulse Software Solutions LLC is looking for an Engineering Director. As the Head of Software Engineering, you will lead a variety of teams including software development, QA, and mobile engineers.

• 30% Hands On Coding, 70% Leadership/Managing

Qualifications

• Master’s with 5+ years of relevant experience providing advanced software engineering solutions. The degree should be in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related data-centric field.
• Excellent software engineering talent: 5+ years of experience with software development in a consumer or SaaS product.
• Fluency in the following is a must: Agile, Code Quality, Code Reviews, CSS3, Git, HTML 5, Next, React, REST, TDD, Testing, Typescript, Node, PostgreSQL, and Serverless.
• Demonstrated deep technical and data science expertise, acute strategic and analytical skills, ability to lead and persuade, drive and energy, and desire to work in a project-based environment on strategic issues.
• Notable track of professional accomplishment and leadership.
• This leader needs to have a track record managing ~10+ engineers given he/she will need to hire a team of ~30+ engineers over the coming years.
• Experience working on large-scale systems, solving complex problems and having sound system design architecture visibility.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain software systems.
• Translate product objectives into engineering strategy, infrastructure, and tasks to deliver desired customer experience.
• Oversee the technical design, architecture, and development of software projects.
  Ensure the quality, performance, and scalability of the final product.
• Mentor fellow developers and provide technical guidance, review code, and ensure adherence to best practices and standards.
• Support back-end and front-end development effort, including input into hiring, training, and managing engineering resources.
• Ensure quality of engineering efforts, including reviewing pull requests, finding and raising bugs, and specifying engineering approaches.
• Propose high-level architecture for the product and work with engineers to implement the architecture.
  Develop proof-of-concept code that can guide engineers.
• Ensure best practices are followed.
• Ensure engineers are provided with the information to resolve bugs.
• Encourage experimentation within the engineering team and ensure learnings from successful experiments are implemented in production.
• Write an initial codebase to allow future engineers to improve the product.
• Collaborate with the sales and operations team to support customers.
• Provide the first line of defense for diagnosing and triaging customer issues.
• Implement bug fixes for time-critical bugs for high-value customers.
• Create a minimal-viable product for the venture team to validate concepts.
• Identify technology stack to solve business problems.
• Develop a minimal SaaS product using full-stack development tools, including database, back-end, and front-end engineering.
• Highlight alternative approaches which provide business value while limiting required engineering time.
• Collaborate with the product team on the feature roadmap.
• Have a detailed understanding of the full product codebase–should be able to write and deploy code to aid feature development.
• Determine the technical feasibility of proposed features.
• Ensure features that improve engineering efficiency are prioritized appropriately.
• Assess and quality vendors (contractors, tools, data) / keep abreast of new technologies to ensure the venture maintains state-of-the-art architecture / codifies learnings and best practices.
• Support the selection of engineering contractors to achieve business goals.
• Identify new technologies that can meaningfully improve business objectives.
• Create documents that engineers can leverage to improve the engineering process.
