Microsoft Custom Vision Programming Case Study for Danco.com

Meet the client:

For over 35 years, Danco has been one of the largest plumbing repair, replacement, and remodeling suppliers in the home improvement industry, consistently delivering innovative products. Danco is a retail division of the Plumbing Products Group, a division of NCH Corporation based in Irving, Texas. Danco’s plumbing repair parts have the most practical designs that are easy to use and work with and make plumbing jobs easy.

Need:

Danco has a portfolio of thousands of products under multiple categories. Between these categories, hundreds of new products get activated each week, each with diverse characteristics, making it challenging for customers to find the right product. Also, the current process of finding the right faucet was tedious, wasting precious time, resulting in a high rate of cart abandonment. Danco aspired to use machine learning and image-search technology to make discovering products easier than before.

Solution:

After brainstorming the requirements of the project, our team decided to use Microsoft Custom Vision Programming to take advantage of its pre-build artificial intelligence that offers rich capabilities to design a frictionless customer experience.

Microsoft Custom Vision Programming lets you create customized API models and extract accurate information from images and analyze content with Computer Vision.

Considering the vast portfolio of Danco, we wanted something simple yet powerful to analyze and classify various visual elements found within a picture. Custom Vision can be used successfully to analyze and recognize images and match them based on probability with the images used in the model. Custom Vision also allows us to manually tag the image, which then goes on to improve overall accuracy and reliability.

Here are some of the features we added using Custom Vision that made it more interactive and convenient for users while they browse and find faucets online.

  • Users can take a picture of plumbing parts they require and upload it using their phone
  • Using Custom Vision, the website will display the recommended products to help customers find the one they need.
  • Customers can select the product they require and directly buy it from the link.
  • With the help of Custom Vision, Pulse Solutions simplifies the customer experience that belies the complexity of technology put behind it.

Result:

With this revolutionary feature added to the customer’s online experience, Danco was able to enhance the customer’s online experience. As a result of the interactive feature, the client witnessed the following results:

  • Using artificial intelligence, we have optimized customer value and have given Danco an edge over its competitors.
  • Instead of browsing or using the search bar to find a product, users can simply take a photo to find their desired product.
  • Optimized user experience has reduced cart abonnement rates and has boost sales.
  • Increased number of visitors to the site.
